AMP-activated protein kinase: A remarkable contributor to preserve a healthy heart against ROS injury

چکیده

Heart failure is one of the leading causes death and disability worldwide. Left ventricle remodeling, fibrosis, ischemia/reperfusion injury all contribute to deterioration cardiac function predispose onset heart failure. Adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) universally recognized energy sensor which responds low ATP levels restores cellular metabolism. AMPK activation controls numerous processes and, in heart, it plays a pivotal role preventing progression disease. Excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, known as oxidative stress, can activate AMPK, conferring an additional redox-sensor. In this review, we discuss recent insights into crosstalk between ROS AMPK. We describe molecular mechanisms by how signaling further prevent progression. Ultimately, review potential therapeutic approaches target for treatment cardiovascular disease prevention • generation redox sensor. reduces stress acting on Nox, mitochondria antioxidant enzyme expression. crucial controlling ischemia-reperfusion, hypertrophy or atherosclerosis. Regulation of autophagy by AMP-activated protein kinase/ sirtuin 1 pathway reduces spinal cord neurons damage

Objective(s): AMP-activated protein kinase/sirtuin 1 (AMPK/SIRT1) signaling pathway has been proved to be involved in the regulation of autophagy in various models. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of AMPK/SIRT1 pathway on autophagy after spinal cord injury (SCI). Materials and Methods:The SCI model was established in rats in vivo and the primary spinal cord neurons were subject...

AMP-activated protein kinase regulates E3 ligases in rodent heart.

RATIONALE The degradation of proteins by the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) is required for the maintenance of cellular homeostasis in the heart. An important regulator of metabolic homeostasis is AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). AMPK activation inhibits protein synthesis and activates autophagy, but whether AMPK plays a role in regulating protein breakdown through the UPS in the heart i...

Mechanical Stretch-Induced Protection against Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury Involves AMP-Activated Protein Kinase.

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) protects various tissues and cells from ischemic insults and is activated by many stimuli including mechanical stretch. Therefore, this study investigated if the activation of AMPK is involved in stretch-induced cardioprotection (SIC). Intraventricular balloon and aorto-caval shunt (ACS) were used to stretch rat hearts ex vivo and in vivo, respectively. Stret...
